I don't expect too much input concerning this mod since it's one not too many would have a need to do but I thought it wouldn't hurt to post it anyway.
So, here's the deal. Since I'll be living here in Germany for the next few years and I have this US Spec E60, I would realy like to have the German version of the professional radio with traffic management control (TMC) installed. In addition the AM channel has single digit advance instead of increments of 10 at a time.
I had TMC in my last car and it helped get me around many traffic jams with alternate routes so I've been checking Ebay.de for the past few weeks but have not seen such a unit up for auction.
I guess I'm stuck with getting it at my BMW dealer so I'll see if they can order and install the radio unit. I'm probably looking at over $1000 for the module.
Any thoughts concerning comapatibility issues?
I'm not an electronics expert but I think this should be just a remove and replace with a software update?
Any thoughts?
Bob

There is a possibility that all that is through software. I am working with Schaal to see if they will make the attempt to load the Euro software on my car when I take it in. You may want to call and speak with Sascha. He should be able to tell you all the info you need.

Thanks Kris, I'm going in to Schaal on Monday to see what's up.

My bet is on software too - are there different part numbers for the US and Euro radios?
I was just upgraded to CIP 17.1 and got my car back this morning. My SA is also looking into installing the German software on my car because he is getting tired of me complaining about TMC - he thinks its nuts that it doesn't work.

I think it's "NUTS" too and expect to have it working soon. Don't know about the part numbers but I'll have that answer on Monday. Also, do you have the RDS working? I can't find anything concerning that in the manual. Thanks for the reply.
