When the sport button is pressed, the steering wheel gets much tightend up and heavy.
Also, the throttle response becomes very sporty.
What about the shifing speeds (especially in manual mode?)

You know what I hate about the U.S. BMW dealerships. If you want to do any modifications or changes to the car, they're going to make up some kind of bullshit excuse to prevent you from doing it or make it sound so complex that it'll be too much of a hassle for you to do.

If what hoon said is true, then this is going to be a lifesaver for me and those who didn't get the SAT option.

Hoon, would it be possible to ask your installer where he ordered the SAT shifter from? a website address or a phone number would be nice

"When the sport button is pressed, the steering wheel gets much tightend up and heavy. " - Is this true Rudy? I don't have the SAT so I don't know if this is true or not.

Hoon
Can you take a look at the label on the door pillar when your car was built?
I am sure your car is LCI by looking at your center dash.

So Hoon,

just summarizing a final set of questions from everyone:

Rudy: What about the shifing speeds (especially in manual mode?) when sports mode pressed
Rumman: What about shifting speeds in D when sports mode pressed
my530i: What build is your car?
aznunknownx: can your installer get us the part number so that I can confirm this

@aznunknownx: you should be able to order this part from teh dealer. I know that no one in austria has done it so far (there is one yet to be imported from germany), but my dealer was kind enough to inquire about it. You just have to make sure you take the shift and the electronic module. What Hoon is saying is that the module is plug+play.

Again Hoon, thx so much for the feedback - you have no idea what trend you might setting off here....

The sport button does have an impact on the steering feel. It activates the "Dynamic Driving Control" which, according to the owner's manual, does the following:

Dynamic Driving Control
The Dynamic Driving Control makes it possible
for your BMW to react in an even more performance-
oriented manner at the push of a button:
  • The speed range of the engine is optimally
    utilized.
  • Gearshifts are faster.
  • The engine responds more spontaneously
    to accelerator pedal movements.
  • The steering responds more spontaneously
    to steering wheel movements.
  • In the automatic mode, the 6th gear is not
    engaged.

And one final question:
Do you have 3 modes, which would be:
1 normal (shows a d on the display)
2 manual (shows a m + a nimber for the gear u r in)
3 sports manual (shows a s + a number for the gear u r in)

Do you get any error messages?

If this is the case, I would say the car sw has accepted that you have sat shifter and not the lci normal shifter.

Thanks

On a true SAT, when the sport button is pressed, the word "sport" shows up in the MID just to the left of the gear mode display...

1) cannot comment because never driven in manual mode yet. Please understand that my car is still in break-in period.
2) hard to comment because I don't remember how the shifting speed was with the normal automatic shifter.
3) MY2008
4) Ask him! My installer's website -> http://cafe.daum.net/09garage (SAT mod related page -> http://cafe.daum.net/09garage/9v3v/65 -> you can see the pics of my car here!) The owner of the shop speaks English!
5) No
6) normal-yes, manual-yes, sports-no, only "DS"
7) No
