I'm talking about removing the entire spare wheel compartment in the trunk
as well as the spare wheel to save a bit of weight. So has anyone done this before? And is it possible?

I did this long ago and saves 50 pounds or so which is not bad. I do not have run-flats either but especially is unecessary if you do have run-flats. Any weight removal helps!

is it possible? anything is possible, shit you can ride with no doors if you want, that should save you about 3 to 4 hundred pounds. Its just you will have to deal with the consequences!!! (of not having a spare when tire goes out.)

I've been driving for over 30 years and have never pulled out a spare tire. I've had nails, screws, and flats a dozen or so times and have always managed to air up enough to get to the tire shop.

If you maintain proper inflation, replace tires after 6 years, and choose a quality manufacturer, I contend that other than a freak disaster that you'll never need a spare. I'm living proof.

I have never used a spare in my life despite a couple flat tires. I also do not carry any kind of kit or anything and I do not have run flats. I check tire pressure regularly and buy tires quite often. Stuff happens but to be honest half the time it is either too cold, or I am in a really busy traffic area or something that I likely would not want to change my tire anyway. I just have my car flatbed towed to my tire place or home if it ever happened since i live next door to a tire place. I have never had to do this and it is worth the gas milage savings and performance savings of losing 54 pounds (the weight of the spare and jack).

Get the m5 trunk kit. Great for a flat but you'll still be SOL if you get a blowout.

Hey OP -
You should also consider removing the floor mats, owner's manual and loose changes in the holder, as well as filling up only half a tank of gas, removing all your clothing and shoes, shaving your body and emptying out your system in the bathroom before getting into the car. Since you are taking out the spare and jack, you might as well take out the emergency kit tool (over-rated totally). How about all the lining inside the trunk?
