Yes it can be removed....
And it involves more than just removing the rear seat...
You will also need to take off the "C" pillar cover, and there are Air bags under there.
Order of removal
Rear seat bottom
Rear seat Back
"C" pillar covers
Rear Deck ( your not fitting any packages back there)
I removed mine to install the manual Rear sun shade on my 08 535I. It took about 2-3 hours to do the first time.
Be careful with the Airbags and the Clips that hold the trim , they are very easy to break.
If your car does not have removable rear seats you will
need :
BMW Trim removal kit
A good set of Torx Bit Drives
Drive extender
Socket wrench
Large Flat head.
When all the bolts are out you will still have to be very careful with the deck since there are speakers attached to it. I did not see any quick disconnect style attachments on said speakers , so you may have to have a soldering Iron or the like to reattach the wiring to the speakers. You will also have to come from inside the trunk to trip the two safety latches that hold the back seats tight ( normally these same latches have releases for the fold down seats). This comes before the trim removal and the deck removal. This is what the large Flat head screw driver is used for.

Is it a stretch to replace it with a 5.25 ? I keep looking for videos to see under there. all the links are dead.
