Do not be fooled by the seller, that is a universal kit. It is not made specifically for BMW.

Hopefully it works, I had a 2011 300 and don't think I pushed the start button inside the car more than a couple times in the year I owned it. Don't need them in the winter here, but we need them in the south Texas summer.

Starter kit was garbage and the bytran didn't even work. The installer told me send it back for a way better one. Wasted my time.

The app for Europe (BMW Remote w/iPhone/Android) permits some climate control for the newest BMWs - including " Is it usually too hot when you get in your car? No problem! Use the My BMW Remote app to turn on the air conditioning a few minutes before you get into your car to cool it down. And during the winter, turn up the heat in your car via your smartphone to defrost the windows and make it comfortable before getting in."

I've managed to use the app on my Droid to remote lock/unlock, flash lights, sound horn, and locate via gps on a Google maps. But it isn't 'officially' released on the Google Play Store for USA.

All that said, I've been following and commenting on BMW blogs for decades and I've yet to find an authoritative remote start solution (especially recently) and I would NOT permit anyone (except maybe Bruce Miranda ) to get into the wiring of my car!

It's possible. My buddy started my car without my key fob sometime last year, so if he can do that I'm sure he can also put a special device in the car to emulate the key as well as activate the start button with a relay or something.
