Im trying to get the cheapest way to install an aux port in my 2005 5 series. I dont really care about controlling the songs from the idrive and changing songs from the steering wheel. All i care is playing songs through the car speakers via aux.

I searched around and i saw a DIY guide on installing the aux.

Part# 65 12 0 153 502 (like 80$)

I was wondering if this will work on my car because it has a cd changer.

It works, your car will need to be programmer for it to show up in Idrive. Sounds great btw

If I understand correctly though, it's one or the other: aux or cd changer. So if you install aux, you'll lose cd changer.

Nope I have both CDC & AUX ... AFAIK CD Changer & iPod interface are exclusive to each other.

I tried to install my self with no luck at all. and i knew what i was doing. took it to bmw dealer to have them do it. it took them like 5h. they had stuff everywhere. and all i got was the AUX in glove box and they reprogramed my idrive. total cost about $480. a very unhappy $480. Aux port sound quality is nothing close to cd quality. its really sad.

Wow $480 to install? My dealer quoted me $250. Either way I have fantastic sound quality from mine, I didn't install it myself. I was having the CCC unit replaced anyway and had them hook up the Aux input as well. I love it, sound is great and with over 700 songs on my iPod I never get bored anymore.
