Question for those who've removed their resonator(s)...
#1
like most our cars, mine's got a total of three resonators... theres the twin cylinder-shaped ones right after the cat, then there's the rectangular-shaped one closer to the muffler. to get more sound, which one(s) "should" be removed? most say there's a slight decrease on the bottom-end as a result. but, what's the positive/negative effect in removing them all? and if only one is to be removed, which one should it be?

My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
i did all 3. member "JDN" said he removed the box and didn't notice a difference. i remember a few posts from waaay back saying ppl removed the 2 tubes and DID notice a difference - slightly louder and deeper sound on a 545.
based on that, i guess if you can only remove either the box or tubes, do the tubes...?

yeha get a custom made xpipe (froma a muffler shop) which is cheaper and better than a magnaflow xpipe...
someone did this to his 4.4l x5 with all stock exhasut and it sounds BEASTLY. The best part is that when you're not WOT, it sounds just as nice as stock, with a lil' more sound...nothing annoying.

i just had as you described the rectangular one replaced with straight piping. ever since my exhaust has sounded deeper and more noticeable even inside the cabin. also, nothing annoying.

just the rectangular resonator, then a single 2.5" pipe from there to my eisenmann. should i have the tubular ones replaced too? btw, where are the cats on our cars?

The cats are closed to header.
I'm still confused, I thought you run straight pipe, but you mention Eisenmann here
Also, there are 2 pipes coming in rectangular resonator and coming out with a like 5" single pipe. So you meant 2.5" pipeS or pipe? It should be 2 2.5 in pipes to the xpipe and out, right?

sorry for any confusion. on my 530 my eisenmann is an axle-back. the shop cut the resonator where those two pipes come together as one and then they cut it near my eisenmann. the single pipe after the rectangular resonator is only about 2" to 2.5". they replaced that space with a single 2.5" pipe. they just bent one end to be flatter and wider for the area where the 2 pipes come together originally.
edit: still a newb and still learning. sorry for the ignorance. regarding the cats, i asked because the shop told me that "those 2 tubular things are the cats and its good because they're small." so they're really just silencers?i know the v8s have 3 to remove, i didnt know the 530 would be the same. and its ok if i have them removed? if anything i thought there would be o2 sensors there or something thinking they were the cats. and if i were to have them removed, would bmw be fine with that? and where to cut, right before those "tubular things"? thanks in advance.

bump for FANTASTIC 5
Nerweezy, I think you should delete the other 2 resonators. According to FANTASTIC 5 (Joe), he removed them. He has the Eisenmann Race like you, and he revved it for me today when I was at his shop. It sounded awesome, especially at 4-5k rpm, it was screaming!!
Thx again for hooking me up FANTASTIC 5 for the JL Audio w6v2. ... way better than my MTX

no problem john, i'm glad you like your new setup. the guys at the shop were amazed at how loud and clean that w6v2 sounded. sure, you've got a great sub and good amp, but like i told you that box is key!
