From what you're saying, you're suggesting it's the warm check that's cycling it. However, I am skeptical of that. The reason is that the warm check is in place to verify the current and voltage being drawn, I don't think it functions the same way as cold checks at all. From your description, the behavior sounds more like cold check, which obviously isn't the case here.

I have just been for a 30 min drive and the angel eyes are blinking again. I haven't tried turning off the bulb checks yet, but I managed to get a video of the lights:

...I would like to add that both headlights do in fact blink at different times at similar intervals. (It must have been a coincidence last time as I'm positive they weren't doing this before)

Yah, it sounds like it could be a heat issue for sure. The LEDs will act that way and will most likely die. Like I said above, due to the way you're insulating the heat sink (with the stock holder), it essentially is baking itself like an oven.

Well, I strongly think that it's an heat issue, but obviously without further testing, it's difficult to say. Unfortunately, I don't have any bright ideas in how to help dissipate the heat by modifying the holder, but yeah, it's not really just an extra bit. It's pretty significant actually. If I am looking at the picture right, at least half of the heat sink is now baked in.
Heat is the greatest enemy for most electronics, LEDs are no exception. If you have seen AngeliBrights v3's heat sink, you'll know what I mean. (AiB uses a 10w LED, and the heat sink on each side is freaking HUGE)

Or instead of drilling holes, maybe there are paint that will help absorption of heat? (just pulled it out of my ass)
Theoretically, anything dark like black should help lower the temperature if that holder is no longer silver/chrome. The drop in temperature might be minimal, but I guess it's somewhat of a place to start.
