I have an '04 530i (E60) with a 10-speaker, single CD system.

I've read a lot of the posts here describing custom installs of subs and amps.

Replacing the under-seat subs looked enticing enough, except I would have to add a new amp somewhere and I was afraid it wouldn't look "clean." I also can't find a dealer in SoCal for the Earthquake SWS-8 speakers. Are they still available?

Anyway, I thought maybe a Powered Bazooka Tube or a Basslink from Infinity would fit the bill. It's all self contained and if I ever sold the car and bought another, I could always take the sub out with no fuss or muss and install it in the new ride.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Thanks!

I am thinking about adding a Bazooka bass tube to my e60, so I thought I would revive this thread. Can anyone provide any feedback on this? Here is a link

i have a basslink2, i used to have it in my MINI, it was loud as hell...but a buddy of mine who does car audio installation in socal said those powered subs wont make the slightest difference of bass in this car. a traditional box/sub/amb is the best way about it. those powered subs are more for compact spaces...if you throw it in a big trunk...that little 10" sub is gonna pass out lol.

Have you looked into JL audio's powered sub unit?

I have a baselink II from my old Jetta, worked great in there. Haven't installed it yet in the E60 but probably will this spring.

Had a Basslink in my old Maxima. It's okay. Not bumping loud enough for me though.

I would stay away from the Bazooka Tube and Infinity Basslink. If you must get a subwoofer box with the amplifier all in one, consider the Rockford Fosgate design. At least it has a flat bottom mounting surface. The other two are hard to strap down and keep from flying around in your trunk with spirited driving.

For the Earthquake subs, I would suggest you buy them online. An experienced stereo installer, in SoCal, that specializes in BMW systems , should be able to install these for you if you bring them in. To get the real benefit from the sub upgrade, you will need to get an amplifier for them as well. I think the Earthquake subs are a good upgrade to the stock subwoofers. Deeper bass for sure. Keep in mind that they do not fit right in without a small modification to the box and a custom made adaptor plate.

do these go under the seat? ive been back and forth to put a system or not...all my cars have bumped hard before but few years later i end up with rattles everywhere...if this is under the seat, u think this would be enough bass with a full speaker swap in the mix?

Yes, these enclosures go under the front seats. With the speakers properly installed, there will be a significant improvement in the quality of the bass and the level of the bass.
