$1500.00 bucks. For twenty HP......I don't know. Looking forward to the first guy to try it out, then give some feedback.

The warranty info is interesting

I don't know about you guys but I have always been a little concerned about computer upgrades which claim to give you more power. Don't you think you BMW would have already done this to extract more power.

Not really. If you want more horsepower, that 's a bargain at 55% cheaper than the original 325. Personally, I would wait for the Dinan if that was what I wanted -- wouldn't void the warranty.

I've heard good things about that powerchip company from E46 guys.. but cant vouch for anything that i've seen in person.... i've personally never messed with the ECU on the 3er.. i'll let someone else be the guinea pig before i start messing with the comp........

Does the e46 M3 use an actual chip too? I remember listening to a powerchip consultant talking about how their product would not void the warranty of the M3 as the upgrade would not be detectable by a BMW technician. Instead of an actual chip, they simply reprogrammed the ECU.

Maybe it was a different company though.

I dont recall off the top of my head... 2 months ago.. i coulda spit the info right back to ya.. but since i've switched from M3 to 545i..i've purged my mind of that info..haha.. i believe there was an extensive thread on either BFC ( Bimmerforums.com) under m3's or E46fanatics.com...

i recall hearing something like that too..and there was a heated discussion...and if i recall correctly some actually took the plunge and was gonna get it....

InitialD,

What swayed you to the 545 over the M3?

Didn't Lomag have a powerchip installed that registered LESS hp and torque on his dyno than before the chip? It's in his signature.

From what I've heard, and experienced, the biggest performance bang for the buck would be to switch out the runflats for some max performance summer tires. it will save you about 8-10 lbs per tire, increase ride comfort, greatly improve handling, and you're quarter mile times should come down a tenth or so.

No not me ... I don't think I'd ever chip my car or do any of those "performance" upgrades. I'd rather buy the next higher model, the M5 in this case, if more power was needed but the 545 is plenty for me.
