I was watching some tv and I came across the porta-jump emergency jump starter. My car battery runs out of battery sometimes when I wash my car, so i thought this little thing would be helpful. It has 3 star ratings on HSN, with a fair share of 5 stars. It seems like this product is a hit or miss. Has anyone given this a try on their e60?
This thing plugs into the cigarette lighter and charges your battery. what do you guys think?

just get a real portable jumper, they are pretty cheap now a days at any pepboys or autozone...just keep it in the trunk, attach when the battery is dead, flip a switch, crank, and remove...I swear by them after all my problems with aftermarket audio in my e46

+1 Get the real thing. You don't want to find out this doesn't work when you need it the most.

I've never been a fan of jump start devices that interface with the car via the cigarette lighter outlet. Besides the obvious wire gauge differences, our cars have some pretty sophisticated electronics, etc. that I'd never want to risk by pumping voltage "in" to a normally "out" circuit.
I do, however, usually have one of those portable jump starting batteries in the trunk like rkhettry23 is talking about -- mine even has a built-in tire inflator so I'm good to go...
