The steering column slip ring on the E60s etc.. are completely different to all previous BMWs that shared the same slip ring (including M3 SMG).

For this reason plus others, it is not possible to put on the M3SMG wheel on a E60.? Also, the electronics inside the multifunction wheels and paddle buttons within the steering wheel are totally different and come in several versions depending if you have steering wheel heating, smg etc..

Having said all this, and I mentioned to a few at the Belgium meet today, I am working on this starting this week as I am back in the UK to pick up a spare SMG E60 wheel, plus extra paddles and control units so that I can disassemble them and start work on the circuitry inside.

I will post the fruits of my labour in due course - but I think it will be later in Dec before I am ready to do so.
