I just want to mention another thing:

IN most cases when the police sets up a mobile radar trap for a couple hours, they are still there and they write down the license plater number by hand, after seeing it with their own eyes, not through the lense.
They need to do that, espacially because there are some vehicles where there's one or both license plates not in the proper place, or for motor bikes, where there's just a rear plate.
So, instead of looking for crap that doesn't help you and that can get you in deeper troubles wit hthe law enforcement... Do not drive toooooo fast, just a little bit more than allowed, if you need to...

Yes, in that case they follow you, you turn off the UV light and the plate will be visible again, while with an IR lamp nobody could see the light .

The lamp of my photo was only a little red, to my eyes .

A good way could be a superpower IR light in the rear glass .

Or dredge license plate with some substance that with an UV light take on a phosphorescent color .
I keep thinking about putting on an LCD switch to change the plate numbers to something else (e.g. turn a "3" into an "8" with a piece of LCD film). However, as others have pointed out, tampering with license plates is kind of illegal...

Well, until a couple of years ago, in the UK you could walk into any car spares shop and ask them for a registration plate with any number you fancied, and they'd simply give it to you for ?10!!! (maybe ?15 if you wanted some fancy font to be used).

What was (and is) illegal is fitting the plate to the vehicle. However, the police have cottoned on to the fact that drug delaers don't really care too much for illegality, and in order to get a new plate issued you now need to show that you are the owner of the registered vehicle. (So now they steal the bleeping plates. You just can't win! )

Ehm, but if they stop you and check the plate ?
The only way is put on it some chimical (invisible) substances that take on a color with UV light (12v with resistors from the little lamps that illuminate the plate)

I give you the idea, you could study the rest ..

I guess it's the same in the whole EU.

At least in Germany it'S the exact same.
