I've recently replaced my RFT's for Michelin PS2's and they're great! Great grip (much better then RFT), pretty silent and pretty good on wet surface (I got them siped for extra grip in this conditions). Go for the PS2's, you won't regret it!

I'm going with 245/40 18's because the dealer says this is the largest wheel that works for the XI. Budget isn't a concern, but living in CT. where the weather changes by the hour, I will want tires with good grip in the rain. I noticed in one test that the Hankook finished poorly in wet conditions.
not exactly I read in a German mag that the Ventus actually beat them all, spec in aquaplanning.
Note that premius brands do not like those kind of results, I will have them soon when bigger shoes come, and my winters performed A+. Soon Hankook will be a Premium brand also. I think, we tend to think when sg is cheaper and from Asia it equals w lower quality but luckily not always

My Ride: 04' 530i Sport/premium/cold wx/PDC/xenon.
OK I know you didn't ask, but I just went through this decision on summer tires for my 530i.
I ran Dunlop Sport M3s non-RFTs through the winter and was very impressed. I did the usual research on Tire Rack and I notice a slightly better ratings on the Dunlop SP Sport Max.
I've had them on the car since April and at first I thought I had made a mistake. The weather was still not that warm and I thought they rode a little hard. I had the car at the track for a BMWCCA high performance driving school shortly they were mounted, and while they performed well I didn't think they were outstanding.
The temperature the past 4 weeks has been at least 10-15 degrees warmer and the performance has really improved. There maybe a breakin factor contributing to the change as well. I would now rate them as at least very good to excellent. I don't have enough miles yet to give you a wear indication, but I will definitely be tracking the car again this summer.
