Not to add my "less than helpful" advice, but if you can't tell the original from the replicas, isn't that a good thing (unless the seller is telling you they are OEM and you are paying more for that belief)?
The difference in price is marginal, but you should make sure that you like the drive with the 19" tires (it is different for sure--firmer, noisier, but feels much better if you want to control your car).

Well thats just the thing, Im not there and I cant see if the difference is obvious.
But if the total car value is based on that it has OEM M5 rims, I sure want to find out if the are OEM or replicas.

The reason why you always should go with OEM parts is that the build quality is better. In general, you will not get the same kind of quality with replicas but there are exceptions.

I have seen several 166 Replicas that were made in Taiwan and there were a few differences:

-The paint was not as shiny as the OEM.
-The paint had an uneven and spotty spray pattern with imperfections visible in it.
-The Taiwanese Replicas that I saw had a small lip around the circumference that the original 166 wheel does not have (although I was told that they were also available without the lip, but did not see them myself)
-The indentation where the "///M" logo is supposed to go are bigger than the OEM one on these replicas. So they use fake/bigger M logos, or if they use the OEM then you can see the emblem is too small for the spot.
-The spokes don't go as deep in the center of the wheel because the offset on these replicas are different from the OEM's.
-Replicas are available in 18", 19", and 20" while the original is only available in 19".

The wheel in your picture does not have the extra lip.....and being that they are in Germany I would guess they are either originlal M5 166 BBS's or they are one of the Italian Replicas, which are usually very good quality.

If your friend can get a small mirror and pass it through the spokes then he could see the back of the spokes and look for the "BBS" marking without taking the wheels off. Of coarse he has to do it to all the spokes one at a time until he sees it (or the lack of it).

Well thanks for the info guys.

Well I guess I?ll just have to ask to take a wheel off before I buy.

I was hoping there was a simple way, not having to have to show distrust.

There is a considderable price difference between OEM and replicas right ?
Price difference yes, as noted above. But, also, even if replicas look good, they many not be as strong or as light as OEM's.
