Hi there, I am buying a 5 series (not M5) from germany and it has 19" style 166 (M5) rims on.

How can my friend in Germany tell original BMW rims from replicas ?

This is a pic of one of the rims

Thanks, and I will post pics and info if I buy the car

Original wheels should have a BMW part number on them? I might be mistaken though.

Ok that would most likely be on the back of the rim, (a little problem) but othervise there are no exterior visual differences between the two!!!

Take the wheel off and look around for "BBS." If you see that, then you have the real deal.

Well, if he or his friend can't look behind the wheel and look for the BBS signature then he's not going to know if it's a replica or OEM.

Well thanks for the info guys.

Well I guess I?ll just have to ask to take a wheel off before I buy.

I was hoping there was a simple way, not having to have to show distrust.

There is a considderable price difference between OEM and replicas right ?

You can get replicas in $600-800 range depending on the size. Real deal will be at least $1300-1500 per set.
