OLD tires sold as new?

Apparently one of the largest tire retailers, "Sears"
has been selling old tires as new, some dating as
far back as 1996.

Read the article and check your tires!

"New tires sold as new?" How else would they be sold??

Our local ABC affiliate here in Houston did a story on that issue. They found some tires at Sears and some of the smaller local shops in Houston with tires that were up to six years old.
I had four new Dunlops run-flats installed for free last October so I thought I would check them. All four tires had a different manufacturing date. The newest was made in January 07 and the oldest was made in February 06.

Although there's some sensationalizing being done by the reporters, I do think it's mostly a valid concern. Probably the most valuable part of the story is the part where they show how to read the date code on the tire's sidewall...

there was a big story years ago about sears mechanics ripping people off for work that wasnt necessary.
that would be the last place i would go for service.
