Lordy, don't be silly. My post should be quite valuable to anyone purchasing tires over the internet. I won't feed those interested in pillioring a vendor on this site when that vendor did a mea culpa and paid a partial refund curing the problem.

My purpose was to heighten the awareness, on the part of the membership, to be diligent and to protect themselves when they make a tire purchase. Obtain written confirmation as to how old the tires are. I think our readers are sophistocated enough to seek confirmation as to the age of tires, when making an internet purchase, if they wish. Our readers don't need to be spoon fed and told who to buy from.

The quote from Tire Rack, above, is quite misleading. It talks about the life of the tire in service -but conveniently overlooks addressing the period from date of manufacture to date of sale. There is a reason why many tire manufacturers give a 6 year warranty on tires.

You increase your family's risk of catastrophic blowout significantly when you use a tire more than 6 year of age from DATE OF MANUFACTURE. Some of the biggest tire manufacturers, including Bridgestone/Firestone and Michelin have issued bulletins to retailers calling for tires to be removed from service 10 years after the date of manufacture. At least Ford, Chrysler, BMW, Audi and Toyota all recommend that tires be replaced six years after they were made.

You know as well as I that if I were to name the tire vendor there would be a cascade of mindless sheep-like support for the tire vendor - and attacking me for publically attacking the vendor. I've heightened the awareness of our readers on this issue. That was my goal. Nothing more.

Not that I'm trying to defend the Tire Rack but I do think threre's some validity to their position that a tire stored in a climate controlled warehouse that is not exposed to high temperatures (either from climate or from driving) does not age as quickly as a tire that's in service. I think it was the ABC news story (or maybe something else I read) that said that in warmer climates like Florida, tires tend to age faster than ones in cooler places. Also, I found it interesting that the higher speed rating a tire has, the slower it will age as it sits idle...

 

I think there's like one sears here in all of LOng Island, New York. That place is horrible haha!
