So, I bought the stuff off eBay. $20 bucks right? Big deal. So I spent the afternoon, (about 3 hours), very carefully putting the shadowline tape over my ugly ass chrome trim. The process was painful. Smoothing out bubbles, bending on corners, razor-cutting the excess. In the end I see that just a little here and there shows a glimmer of chrome on the edge in spots.

ITS NOT PERFECT DAMMIT. So I tore the whole mother-f'er off in a fit of rage last night and ordered Shadowline trim from Garry this morning for $205 bucks. Screw it.

Don't buy tape, it just causes stress!
Hahahahaha! That's a great story. I do this stuff too, when I try to do a work-around and end up getting so angry, I just destroy the job I just spent hours on. I'm even angrier when I've ripped it all apart, as I now realize that I spent the last 4 hours of my life doing nothing for nothing.

It seems that everyone here is going through the same route: $20 vinyl tape -> got fed up -> $200+ shawdowline trim (total is about $300 + hours of hard labour). Why not just go straight to the shadowline trim ?

Rofl, I know what you mean now. I tried to install mine in the garage last night. Took me 45 minutes to get one piece looking decent. Then there were bubbles. I tried to fix the bubbles and tore the end so then chrome was showing. After that I ripped the crap off. Our stories sound alike. It must be something in the tape!

Its like I read, a photographer buying a tripod. You buy the $40 one to save money and quickly realize it doesn't hold up so you buy the $80 one. Its OK but the camera still wobles and its a pain to use, so you buy the $150 tripod. Finally you have what you should have bought in the first place, and saved $120 along the way.

This reminds me of my father. Always finding the cheap tools and cheap ways to fix things. Very, very creative and intelligent, but I told myself I would always have the best tools and always have the best parts (OEM).

It is one thing if you cannot afford it, but when quality matters and time is important, you GOT to have the right tools..and parts.

Sorry you had to initially waste all of that time. At least you didn't rip and break the good stuff off
