Another $20 alternative would have been to buy a can of self etching primer and a can of SEM or Duplicolor trim paint. I did it on my e30 a couple years ago and its holding up great.

So, I bought the stuff off eBay. $20 bucks right? Big deal. So I spent the afternoon, (about 3 hours), very carefully putting the shadowline tape over my ugly ass chrome trim. The process was painful. Smoothing out bubbles, bending on corners, razor-cutting the excess. In the end I see that just a little here and there shows a glimmer of chrome on the edge in spots.
ITS NOT PERFECT DAMMIT. So I tore the whole mother-f'er off in a fit of rage last night and ordered Shadowline trim from Garry this morning for $205 bucks. Screw it.
Don't buy tape, it just causes stress!

Man, I found out the hard way too. I took mine off and painted it. It looked fine, but I was worried it would scratch so I ordered the trim to. When it came in, it looked like BMW just painted the chrome stuff to. Damn, I never seem to win!Good luck with it! It is easy to do. You can swap it out in 30 minutes - much faster than the tape job.

Sorry to hear about your frustration....but glad you went the OEM root and got rid of the cheap stuff...that's a great price for such an excellent mod, Shadowline trim makes a huge difference IMO....
