Non OEM Battery

I?m trying to understand why some owners are successful in using a non-OEM battery without having to ?register? the new battery while others are not. Does anyone have some documentation about what information is recorded when the battery is ?registered? and when did BMW started ?registering? the batteries?
My OEM battery specs are 12V, 110Ah, 205RC, 850CCA and BCI group size of 49 for 2007 550I, 11/2006.
If you have replaced your battery please tell me:
1.What were the specs of your old battery
2.What are the specs and brand name of the new battery?
3.When was the battery replaced?
4.What Year, Model and production date is your car?
With this information maybe someone will see a pattern when a non-OEM battery can be used and when it can not. Thanks

My Ride: 04 545i sport, stick, L7, sat, nav. Charcoal/ runflat/ cdv delete.
Suede headliner/ trunk, 3 way front speakers, four 8" subs in rear shelf, ACM, iPod dock in ash tray using gateway 500 with MP3 text and video on screen, MRTM aluminum pedals/ door pins, 10 farad cap, sound processor, line conditioner, 2 amps ( 4x100 and 2x200)

When you register the battery, you are actually telling the car to base its power management program on the exact specs and age of the new battery. It asks for the CCA and battery type. For example: the optional AGM battery ( $600-750) has a maximum charging voltage of 14.8 volts, this is lower than the max charging voltage of the stock lead acid battery ( $125-250 ).

I actually disagree with the above posts, there are many members here that have done a battery swap with zero problems....you need, however, to put the correct battery in:

There has also been issues with those same people having mechanical and electrical problems that were diagnosed as having the improper battery for charging.
