The 8500 X50 has 360Degree protection. So you'll need a clear view through the rear window as well.

Did you get it hardwired yet? I am looking for mine to be hardwired. Wondering which cable to buy and where to tap power.

you can get the hardwire from escort's site, its like $10 or something. i have mine tapped into the yellow/green wire under the dome lights by the sunroof.
