My wife gave me a V1 to replace my very old Escort for Christmas. I've RTFM but wanted some input from you guys who've used longer. How good/useful are the two computer modes of Logic and Advanced Logic at filtering out false signals? Are they reliable at filtering out the door openers but not police radars? Some of your experiences are appreciated.

 

I've owned multiple generations of the V1. I have always run mine in L "advanced logic" to filter out the doors and such for city driving. It will still alert at times if you are driving just a few feet from the door. I used to switch to A or l for highway but probably haven't in over 2 years and still believe in the accuracy of always detecting real radar. If they could only filter out those darn led brake lights.

 

I have always used the "All Bogeys" mode.

False alarms are 100% unavoidable, even with the Valentine 1. But, false alarms are also 100% recognizable. False alarms typically manifest themselves as multiple bogeys on a Valentine 1. Cops are single bogeys.

I always preferred to leave the V1 in the most sensitive setting (All bogeys) and then decide if its a threat from watching the number of bogeys.

 

I have an 8-year old version that picks a lot of door openers. Nevertheless, I ususally run on A. It is easy for me to tell the difference between door openers and the real thing. Have not had a ticket in eight years. Stopped twice - once for ignoring V1 (73 in a 50 zone) and 2nd by kicking it with johnny right behind me. No tickets, though.

 

I've owned a V1 since they were first released. In Pennsylvania, only State Police can use radar for clocking speed so I never use my detector in the city -- only highway.

I always use advanced logic mode (capital 'L') and find it's the best for my purposes...

 

Thanks for the input guys. I'll play w/ A and L modes though with most of my driving in town, I think I'll lean towards using L.

 

I've always used my V1 in L mode. Works for me (so far - 7+ years).
