Hey everyone,

so i've been researching a few ideas to do the quad exhaust conversion for my 525i... however i've been reading stories about losing low end torque/back pressure because the engine is not set up as a "V"? I'm merely looking to do it for cosmetics and sound-wise and I wouldnt mind having the car breathe a little better without sacrificing low-end torque. Is the loss of back pressure/low end torque due to the fact that you would be running 2 mufflers instead of one? I'm confused as to what exactly causes the drop in torque.

So what I did was configure a mock up diagram utilizing 1 muffler and extending the outlets to the quad tips (OPTION 1 in diagram) - It's a symmetrical design. If this is a silly idea then I would opt for (OPTION 2)?

If OPTION 1 is a possibility to NOT lose low end torque but still get the quad look + deep sound, then I would also need to know the exact dimensions of the muffler I could use in that space.

Also do I absolutely NEED the X-pipe?

Please help!

Need dimensions for this area here so I can get the proper sized muffler:

Ultimately the set up would look similar to this but utilizing only 1 muffler instead of 2. Does this make sense? or ridiculous?

I believe MacFly's car has the setup you are looking for, Ask him for a PM and he can tell you what he used.

But its been done. I believe Anthony517 did it too on his e60. Look for his postings and you can see.

Thanks! But I believe MacFly is using 2 mufflers... im asking if anyone has tried it with just 1 muffler as seen in my diagram (Option 1). Same goes with Anthony517, he has a setup that I made in Option 2 in the diagram above.

BTW, where did you get your Eisermann tips? I think im leaning towards the oval tips just like yours.

Thanks!

Actually, Anthony517's setup is the one you want,

Take a look at his thread.

And the tips, I got from Evsmotors.com. Call up ted and ask for the M6 oval tips. He'll let you know what's up. Or you can go 2 AAA motor in cali. I know a lot of guys here went to them for exhaust work.

This magnaflow muffler should work right? It's dual in and dual out. I just want to make sure the muffler size is ok to use. This is 8" wide and 5" height.

I believe so.
2.5 OD might be too big for your setup. Try 2 to 2.25 only. The more mufler you use, the less loud and less droning you will get.
