Curious if anyone has any first hand experience with an exhaust and/or performance muffler on one of the 6-cylinder models? How did it sound...tinny or nice etc...?

TIA

I am curious too. I won't feel any power improvement with a catback exhaust, but I do like a little rumble from the exhaust. I thought a different muffler might do it. Maybe another bmw muffler can be used? The M3 sounds nice sometimes, for example. I don't want a constant drone like the M3, just a little more sportier sound befitting the 5. The car handles like a sport car and I'd like for it to sound like one; not like a silent limousine (although it is nicely acoustic as the revs go above 4K).
Sound clips are very, very helpful, so would warranty preserving alterations.

I tried an aftermarket exhaust for the e60 530i from Sebring Technologies (which allegedly makes the exhaust for AC Schnitzer). To my surprise, the exhaust actually caused a slight, but irritating vibration inside the cabin (seats, etc.), which forced me to go back to my original exhausts (which by the way has to be welded back on because any change in the exhaust system requires cutting)

I am also curious to know if the other exhaust systems out there (more specifically, eisenmann, supersprint or AC Schnitzer) also causes the same problems. Your help is greatly appreciated.
