Question Navigation system

I have an old E61 a 2005 model and was wondering how easy it would be to add the navigation system from a newer vehicle as far as I can see mine doesn't have any navigation system. How easy would it be to a newbie like me who hasn't a clue on how to code my modules? What would I need to purchase and how do I make it work?

For a newbie it will be real difficult as you'd have to get the programs, learn them and code. The install process is easy as there's CIC kits you can find to purchase everything all at once.

You need BMW software tools which includes all the programs you need. Also need SP-DATEN v71 which is the updated firmware for all the modules. You also need an ICOM to flash the modules which is expensive if you can find one at the dealership. A lot of people get clones but I don't trust it enough. Some people try to do it with a K + DCAN cable which you'd use for coding and diagnostic but it takes a day just to flash since transfer rate is too slow but it is a cable you should have.

Wow thanks for that I will probably have to get my modules coded by an expert it looks above my expertise!

Where are you at in the UK. I can message my group to see if anyone is near you that will. A lot of coders don't like to deal with E series because we have moved on.

Yeah, some sites can remotely code. But you do the hardware install.
