How can i update the firmware on a 55 plate 535d? professional sat nav mk iv?

I have 2006 E61 with professional grade iDrive navigation (I think it is the professional version which is supposed to be the split screen, which I have). To my greatest regret I had no luck running the EE map. I did the very same thing you did but unfortunately none of the DVDs I burned were recognised. I?ve read on some other forum that perhaps the reader does not accept some types of media. So I went to a computer store and bought 5 DVDs of different brands and ... still nothing. Another explanation that seems to be surfacing is the firmware version. Anybody knows if these maps are dedicated for specific firmware? If so, how do I check my firmware version, how do I upgrade it and which maps run of which navigation type?
If indeed my 2006 E61 Sat Nav reader accepts certain type of DVD media, which type is best for me? I would really appreciate an answer...

 

My car is 2004 March. Firmware on which I tested was basically 2004 March, so very very old. Be sure that you use normal DVD, not dual-layer. It worked very well for me on also with old firmware. I believe it works at least all firmware after 2004 March.

Now I upgraded to 2008 July firmware and still works fine.

Good news for Baltic states!

Out is BMW Navigation 2009-1. There is at least very good quality maps of Latvia capital city - Riga. All smallest streets and many objects !!!

I noticed that just missing new bridge, what was opened on 17th November.

Outside Riga the same - only some key roads.
