I chose the drilled Premium R1 rotors so that they looked more like M5 rotors (rather than slotted or drilled + slotted).
R1 rotors (I believe) come in both an "entry level" and "premium grade" level---- the premiums are WAY higher quality and worth the price difference, for sure!
Don't settle for the "entry level" type.

I'm using Cool Carbon pads, which are very good semi-metallic, so they have very little brake dust and have great thermal control (brakes don't overheat).
They do feel a bit different than the stock OEM setup with blank rotors--- a bit less initial bite, but very linear powerful stopping power.
They feel like good sport brakes, and very appropriate for my 545i.

Brake pads affect the feel more than rotors can---- so switching to any aftermarket pads will feel different than the OEM setup.
Blank rotors might feel a bit more like OEM rotors but I wanted to change the look so I went with the drilled. Happy with my choice.

Put the rotors and brake pads on at the same time (last August) and 12,000kms (7,500 miles) later, I have 90% of pad life left.
So, with my conservative calculations, these pads should last at least 60,000kms (40,000 miles).
Looks like the drilled rotors do not adversely affect the life of the pads.

The Premium R1 rotors still look very good after 1 year.

Oh, just be sure to "bed in" your brake pads on the new rotors. It will make a huge difference on braking performance and the longevity of your brakes.
You can search for more advice on bedding brakes on the Forum, or google it.

I did the same setup on my 550i and love the performance as well as look/style.
It did take about 500 miles before they felt right. The bed in time just takes a little bit with these pads
but once there "bed" its nice and no dust!!!

I'm using the slotted and drilled rotors.
In terms of extra wear from the slots I haven't changed my HAWK HPS brake pads in over 2 years and they still have plenty of meat on them. My E60 is driven year round.
Any of these rotors will work just as well as the others unless you are tracking the car so just buy what you think looks best. Pads make the most difference for daily use.
