The M5 shift knob with status LED light kit was developed by myself, and it's built-to-order product.
In your case you have Steptronics, and it'll light up in R, N, D, and DS.
For Steptronics:
P -> No light on M5 knob
R -> R lights up
N -> N lights up
D or D/S -> D/S lights up
For SMG
R -> R lights up on M5 shift knob
N -> N lights up
D/S -> D/S lights up
At night with lights on, light brightness on the M5 knob is adjustable accordingly to all brightness-adjustable light by light dimmer in the car.
