My car is Titanium Grey Metallic II. When I had my OEM Mtech bumper painted, the shop required me to leave my car with him so that he can properly color match. He says that the metallic flakes in the paint adhere differently to the metal body panels than that of the plastic bumper. He took note of the mix formulation he did on mine. The next month I bought OEM sideskirts that I had directly shipped to him. In the end everything matched up perfectly. In the end it depends on how anal the paint shop is going to be on paint matching.

This!

a minor mismatch can after a few weeks or even a month blend better as the paint gets cured. if it's that obvious at first glance however, you should have them redo it.

Exactly same with me, except i have silver gray.

I left the car there and the next day he called me saying that the color kinda faded from lighter on the roof to darker in the bottom. Left the car there for about 5 days and when i got it back the color matching was perfect

If the plastic is not primered the paint will not match if its sprayed from a color code. A lot of times you can see on brand new cars the bumpers don't exactly match the rest of the car. The paint is too transparent and they hardly use any paint. New cadillacs are horrible. You can see the spray pattern on the silver cars. Almost looks like stripes.

Take a look at the 2008 Acura TL frost white from the factory it does not match... Parts painted at different times with the exact same paint can often not match. Silver is on the top of the list of these difficult colors. High end paint clearly helps. But there a numerous other factors like paint mix, humidity, air pressure, technique just to name a few. Substrate can have an effect of the color outcome but normally the person painting will know this and will apply a sealer to prevent any influence. Keep in mind, you often get what you pay for but sometimes people still charge for bad work. They don't make a whole lot of money on painting a bumper so chances are they will not want to re-do the problem they have created. Now, with all of that said, they should have informed you up front that the match would not be perfect, but should still not be obvious to the normal eye or something is wrong. Adjusting the color is very difficult but can be done with an experienced painter. Last effort can be a slight blending on the connecting panels, but again, this is more costly but will normally do the trick.

I would be pissed if I spent all that money on the kit and it didn't match. I would have clarrified this issue before the work started.

Your shop sucks, period.

First of all, when you get major body parts painted and installed you should pretty much always leave the car. You leave the car so the painter can blend the surrounding panels to the newly painted parts. Dropping off bumpers and only leaving a paint code is a horrible mistake. Your taking a huge chance on the color not matching since the painters have no way of comparing what they just painted to the rest of the car.

According to the shop that did the install they brought the car to the paint shop for matching.

@SDiE60 - Yes, it was Medici. I've had nothing but problems with that guy. Did you just get your car done there? He mentioned another one he was doing. We should swap war stories.

Hey Marc. I didn't get my car done there but I was actually looking at your car while my wife's Accord was getting worked on next door by another shop. I'm probably the "other one" Medici was referring to since I was interested. I'm most likely not gonna go with him anymore.

Reagrding your car, the color difference is obvious at certain angles. I noticed that the rear bumper was a bit off. You might wanna check out your fogs as well. I believe both are pointed outward. I actually took pics with permission from Medici as he was assisting other clients. Unfortunately they're iPhone quality but I can text or email them to you if you're interested.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Hope you get this resolved!

Had him redo the fogs so that they match most kits with the lights more in the middle of the openings. The bumper covers had to be repositioned a few times. Also having him redo the exhaust tips tomorrow as the ones he had put on look pretty weak. Right now he's willing to work with me and take some money off to compensate me for my troubles but I still need to fight with his paint shop to get this right.

So by the end of the week I'll either be happy (at least content) or destroying his company.
