Magnaflow issue
Hey guys! My 545i is at the shop now to get the 14816 welded on. They just called me and told me that because the inlet is too small (2 1/4" vs 3" from the stock piping) that with the two step up's to make it work, the muffler would stick really far out. I have read every damn thread on this muffler and I have never heard of this problem. Has this happened to anybody else?
This is one of the most popular mufflers for this vehicle! WTF?

Step ups to connect the pipe to the muffler inlet???? LMFAO
Find another muffler shop QUICK. Why in the world would anyone want to downsize exhaust piping - just widen the inlet to 3" and join the two pieces together.

i had this same issue bought that muffler, but then decided to get a decent 3'' inlet muffler for the rear, i figured why would you decrease, even by steping the inlet out to 3'' the internals are all smaller and causes a bottle neck.
i had the magnaflow on for a little, but wasnt too impressed, put the 3'' glasspack on, sounds perfect not only that it actually felt like the car lost power

UPDATE!!!!
I found another shop! The owner has a custom exhaust on his 7 series and when I told him what the other guy said he just laughed. Needless to say, I now have a 3" pipe coming from the resonator to my Magnaflow. I gotta be honest, this thing sounds effing sexy! No sound clip on the internet can do it justice!!!! (sorry DK!) No interior resonance (you CAN hear it inside, just not that annoying resonance that you might get with a Flowmaster). Rather quiet at idle, it exudes power and performance when you step on the gas. This was a great investment....

aside from a glass pack, what other muffler with a 3"in/out would be good for our 5's.
I have the Magnaflow the O/P has and i too thought why am I going from 3" down to a 2.25 or 2.5" or whatever this is.
Im thinking Borla 3"in and out and a nice dual tip. I just love the way the Magnaflow tips look.
