US E60 has electronic trunk release switch next to the hood release handle in the driver side footwell.

All cars are prewired for this but some early cars didn't have the button. Infact some of the old timers will remember that there used to be guy called Hobi who sold a kit to add the boot switch for people without the switch. But there is also a DIY done to do this. http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=35864&st=0

If you've closed your keys in the boot its time to find that spare and use it. But I ask again what if you've disconnected the battery and then shut the boot.

no i ment if your remote key fob stops working...how do you get the boot open (trunk or whatever you call it )
as the boot key lock is covered with the finisher, it does not matter if the car has power as there is not a "power opener" inside the car (at least not on euro spec cars) its all done with the key remote fob, or by manually opening the boot with the key

where is your "trunk release button" in the car? i dont have such a thing (or not found it )
That is odd, To open the trunk, you have a few options.

Unlock the car, then u can press the button on the trunk to release it.
There is also a trunk button inside the car, right under the Hood release lever.

Those two options should work if you have power in your car.

Now if you do not have power, you must pop open the hood and put power onto the leads in the hood so then you can go back to the first options I mentioned.

Make sense? I think...

Would the car work if you put power to the leads in the hood? I think it would, just to release the trunk. That is if you have unlock all the doors, then press the button on the trunk itself. Yes, or no?

UK cars must come with the option of an Internal Release Switch as my car has it.
As mentioned, its loacted in the Drivers footwell just under the bonnet release.

That looks great by the way Dave, Still need to get mine ordered!
What did you use to attach it to? Do the screws from your plate follow through into the Original boot-lid?

hi sagar, i got my finisher from cooks ferry.
it fixes on with 3m tape all the way round, and the 2 screws that hold on the number plate.
dont forget that it will then hide your boot lock (hence the previous posts about locking keys in the boot etc)

also if you needed power to open the boot (when battery is flat) only handy if there is someone to jump start you...bad if your on your own or with no cables.....

Thanks for the info, mine is now on order.
Looking forward to getting it on because I cant stand the key-hole, it really dates the back end.

Will get pics up when it arrives & is installed
