Schmiedmann offer 2 of the M5 mirror configurations / options:
1. M5 mirror with electric heating, puddle lights and electric auto fold
2. as above, plus the Auto Dimming mirror/glass option

I think things work slightly different in the US, but in Europe you can order different combinations of mirror configurations/options. In addition, the option which tilts the passenger mirror down to the kerb when reversing (i.e. parking) only works if you have the Full Electric Memory Seat option (included in the Comfort Seats option). So that's why Schmiedmann offer different spec mirrors, because not everyone wants the full spec (expensive) version and not everyone has the necessary other options in their car to enable full use of the mirror's functionalities. Hope that makes sense
This makes sense, so then you can probably just order the mirrors with whatever option you actually want, no?

Schmiedmann offer the two version I listed earlier in the post, but no doubt you could ask them if they do other configurations. Removing the "electric auto fold" option may be a means of reducing the price, but I would be surprised if the M5 was offered without the puddle light or auto-tilt functions, so they could probably be not taken out to reduce the price.

Thanks for all the info, man Good thing my money's all tied up right now, otherwise there's no telling what the mod bug might have brought.

Not trying to steal this thread, but it seems like an appropriate place to mention it...
I just bought a set of brand new OEM M5 mirrors from Schmiedmann for approx EUR 775. Same price for pre-LCI and LCI. Includes puddle lights and Autofold. This is their standard price. This is the link to the M5 mirrors on their website: Schmiedmann OEM M5 mirrors
I opted to pay an additional EUR 150 to have them supplied painted.
They also do them with the auto Dimming Mirror function for EUR 1400.
This is actually a great alternative for getting OEM M5 mirrors, besides from 530dA. Its still pricey, I guess you have to pay to look good.

I mean, don't get me wrong, dude - I have some fibergalss (won't tell you where), but mirrors get a lot of Sunlight and in the winter they are often under snow - temperature changes could be enough to actually affect them. It would depend on the quality of the parts - that's why I asked about fitment and pics of them installed.
As far as i know, fiberglass holds up better than most materials out there. How does fiberglass deteriorate? It does not rust or anything so I really have no clue what you're talking about. My dad has an old school Chevy Corvette which the whole body is made of fiberglass and it has been sitting outside for about 15 years. Guess what? The body is fine and the only things deteriorating are the rusting metal parts from exposure to sun and water. How do you explain boats that have fiberglass undercarriages? Surely those get as much exposure to sunlight and saltwater and it still holds up.

Also, how much more "Sunlight" exposure do the mirrors get compared to rest of the exterior of the car? It's all the same. Again, Fiberglass is just as durable as any other material you see there and much easier to repair if damaged.

I will post pics as soon as I install them... so it's really up in the air right now as to whether or not this was a good buy, but so far so good

I thought US spec M5 mirrors have all the options already included?

So why lose any of those features? seems pointless... someone explain.

Yea, sadly some mirrors dont have all options. I guess some people dont need the dimming mirror or can't afford it.

The first set of m5 mirrors I had did not have dimming mirror and "Fold up" option for the mirror.

Luckily I found a used set in Europe for $700 with all options.
