Just bought some M5 replica mirrors from a vendor of mine. Normally I would go with OEM as I have with the majority of my parts but I just couldn't bring myself spending $1300 + Paint + Install into my financial equation. Besides that, I had a hard time trying to find a set that would fit my car, most of the ones I found out there were for post 9/05. Yes there is a retrofit guide out there, but i'd rather not tamper with $1300 mirrors that might actually end up getting all jacked up with my clumsy ass.
Anyway, I purchased these for about half of the cost ($700) which included paint, heated glass and the carbon fiber lower section! They have these available as full carbon fiber. half carbon fiber or just primered all around. I bought the half carbon fiber. They are made of fiberglass and carbon fiber with an aluminum base.
Here are a few pros & cons:
Pros:
-Inexpensive
-Comes Painted
-Carbon Fiber option
-Heated Glass
-Uses existing motor from original mirrors so no errors in idrive.
Cons:
-Fiberglass
-No puddle lights
-No autofold only manual fold
-Made in Taiwan
So if you're like me and you don't care too much about the autofold function or don't mind fiberglass side mirrors let me know. No i am NOT a vendor... just looking to see who wants to be hooked up.
Here are some pics (Tasty carbon fiber)

Sounds interesting,
is there a way of retrofitting puddle lights onto the mirrors?

i was just having this conversation with Heip & Skee on Friday night!!! if someone would come out with a good rep, someone would make a killin'!!
looks good, but if they could incorporate puddle and auto fold - that'd be money!
good find pare!

it sucks that they dont have puddle lights and is fiberglass. I saw these before and I can get them as well. Just wish they have puddles.

And auto dimming mirrors.
But if you just like the look of M5 mirrors and want a nice far less expensive upgrade from what you currrently have without the nice functionality of OEM then get these.
That's a total savings of $700 which can be used for another mod.
