Here's what I'm thinking:

I recently put 10mm Eibach spacers on my rear wheels (Style 172).
- Assuming the M5 wheels protrude 6mm more than the Style 172 wheels
- With the spacers my wheels are protruding 4mm more than the stock M5 setup.

Now if you are adding tyres that are 10mm wider it means 5mm extra protrusion from stock, hence 1mm more than my setup.

The bottom line is I get no rubbing at all, so I would be surprised if that 1mm is enough to cause a problem.

Yes, it probably won't cause a problem, at least under normal load conditions. However, it's not only wider, but also increased diameter. Some posters say they get intermittent rubbing with 285's in various configurations; others say they have no problems.

If you're getting a really good deal on the wheels and tires, I'd just go for it, and they will most likely be fine.

The M5 wheels are higher and your speedometer will give you lower measures that you should.
It will also affect the the auto gearbox funtions do to the wheels wrong spinning speed etc.

Go for tire sizes given in the owners manual!

So i suspect that getting the same sizes as the 19's 172M rims won't affect the car in any bad way. I'm looking at some bbs rs-gt 19s

Go for it! I've got those wheels on my 545 (selling it to a friend tomorrow), and they are incredible. (I'm going with 20" RS-GT's for my M5.) Both dealers in town say it's the best looking 5 series they've ever seen. One dealer actually spec'd their personal car out with the same wheels.

No problems fitting 19" M5 OEM wheels to your E60.I fitted them to my 535D sport about a 6 weeks ago no problems with catching etc but you need to fit 2453519 to the front and 2753019 to the rear.
