M5/ M6 offsets

Im about to finalize a purchase from Gary tomorrow on some 166's. Clearly a newbie over here and I need some advice on exactly what the difference is and what is preferred? So far I have done nothing to my ride. Next mod is pickin up a set of coilovers. Throw whatever you can my way please.

M5 and M6 front offsets are the same: ET 12


Rears:

M5 ET 28
M6 ET 17


the 11 mm difference with M6 offset will push the wheels flush to fenders. Those with M5 offsets often add psacer to get the look of M6 offsets. Generally, if you are buying new, M6 offsets are the preferred and recc'd choice...sets that are bought used/pre-owned tend to be M5 offsets

You will be good to go with the coilovers with the M6 offset, no rubbing issues if you get the right tire sizes...here's a good tutorial on this

From all of the post I've been reading, looks like the M6 offset is what you want to get the flush fender look.

absolutely!! like gene upstairs said, with m6 offset no spacers are required

I always use this calculator, http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

And yes, M6 spec on the rear will save you a 10mm spacer, but front still need 10-12mm spacer to make it flush.

That would be correct if the OP had a M5/M6.

so if we were in the market for new wheels, for example from wheelnext.com
and we wanted the m6 offset. Would it be best to just look for wheels that match for the m6 and that will give us the m6 offset that we want?
