Today I've finally got the brand new M5 instrument cluster that I ordered from Germany.
Thus I went straight to my BMW service partner and in less than half an hour everything has been fixed. It works perfectly and there are no failure alerts whatsoever.
I followed the whole operation and it is easy to cheat the car's computer while installing it. It is enough to start all the codification preinstallation with the old one (of course the car recognise the old cluster as its own) and than just before launching the codification process switch the old with the new one. At this stage as the car already recognise the cluster it will just codify the new one. On the end everything works properly.
So no need to drive till south Bavaria and pay 180 EUR, every BMW dealer is able to do that and actually mine did it for free as Christmas gift.

Nice!!! more pics! I love how it looks.
How much was the cluster btw?
What were the exact things you told the dealer?
You just updated your CIP or something? and before the update started, unplugged your old one and plugged in the new M5 cluster?
I wonder if I can have my friend do this for me.

The price of the new cluster is EUR 470 + VAT. However the same can be done on a second hand cluster as well.

Congrats Marco my friend!!! It's the most beautiful cluster
After installed it, I can't drive even 15 km long without it...I can't stand the stock cluster looks, just incomparable.
Thanks for the "hot-swap" info

Reading your topics about the cluster I got convinced that I have to go with it and thus I did.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Ciao

What are the differences between the two? Is it just back lit color, and red needles? Does the temp gauge work?
