Could you tell me it the M5 cluster will work on every E60 (every engine and every model year)?
I have a 2005 530i and also like the M5 look.

When I saw the M5 cluster installed on nicke60gre's car - I was sure to get one next time I saw a reasonable deal on ebay.
Picked up this one for 199euros. It looks sick !
Long story short : everything works like stock :
speed: check !
rpm: check!
rpm adjusted temp ban: check! (max rpm automatically adjusts for your type of engine)
fuel indicator: check!
oil temp: check!
cruise control indicator: check!
...of course I get the usual transmission warning/error since I have an auto. This occurs when I start the car and drive in D and DS.
In manual (steptronic), N, R : the error symbol in the display disappears as the i-drive warning as well. No biggie, I can live with it until a solution arises...I guess some mod with the cluster itself will have to take place.
The cluster lights up automatically (irrelavant of light position) and the colors are just beautiful.
Bottom line: this a wonderful interior mod for manual/smg owners, as they will not get any transmission errors.

any one know if this might work:
-buy used m5 cluster
-swap the chip with your e60 cluster
-encode with m5 cluster without swapping the clusters during the encoding
?

swapping the chip will present a needle calibration problem. DocHorror did this and while he didn't get any errors, the needles functioned like stock - which looked weird on the M5 cluster due to the different calibration of the speed /tacho dials.
before encoding: install the stock cluster so that the encoder recognizes the cluster stock and doesn't throw any errors. Before executing the encoding swap to the M5 cluster and start encoding...

You are one amazing individual Andy. Well done man. When are you doing the M5 Shift Knob in your car? I'm surprised you haven't done it already.

No, Andy read the ///Marco.it's recipe: he did it in December 2007 and I posted in Jan or some time later how to do it: he didn't discovered anything.
///Marco.it posted it with subject "X-mas gift" or similar.
Here you are, 21 Dec 2007:
