Does anybody know, if this would work with E90 M3 cluster, on a E90 330i model?
(With uncoding M3 cluster, than coded to VIN of a E90 330i, and than programmed using the swap technique at local BMW dealer).
Tnx

yes it is possible. if the m3 cluster is uncoded, it will be straight plug and play and code it with the VIN of your 330i only. In the case of coded M3 cluster, you need to swap the chip or reset the chip to uncoded, then code the vin. Also it may need to code if your transmission is auto or manual.
Myself I can do code m clusters with a special tool I have. I have done with several M5/M6 clusters on non-m cars.

Tnx for info?s
In case of M5 cluster.
If you want to buy a new one, for a car model which was build before LCI,(2005-2006)
it looks like, that you can no longer buy a cluster, that is suitable for models before LCI. (?)
I was checking on bmwfans.info , and a cluster 62 11 7 837 866 or 62 11 7 837 491, that is suitable to models before LCI, are 'Production discontinued',
and can be 'replaced' by the part 62 11 7 842 074
And as far as I know, is LCI cluster different (exp. the warning lights are arranged different).
So, would a new cluster nevertheless work in a car model, which production was in 2005/2006 ?

hmm,? Can I then at least, before the renewal/resetting the chip,
test the functionality of a used cluster, only with programming- > using the swap technique at local BMW dealer?
And what about M3 DKG cluster? Because this one have nice led indicators, at rpm.

I?m wondering, if this would also work, special in a E90 model, with manual trans.

UPDATE March 2008
M5 cluster has been coded and works perfectly.
Mine was a used one and it was necessary to open it up, find the appropriate chip, wipe all date from it, program my VIN onto it and close it up again. With the right equipment it's straightfoward.
After that it's simple process of coding the cluster via the "KOMBI" in the module menu in PROGMAN. You need to have your stock cluster on the car while going through this process, but then pause and change to the M5 cluster before pressing the "start coding" button !
It's a very good idea to get the latest software update first before you attempt this. Progman will then "see" that your car has the latest updates and will let you go straight to the cluster coding. Coding takes like 2 min.
This is very straightfoward with a new and uncoded cluster. Progman will code your vin and program all board computer data to it. There is however one small drawback: close to 500euros for a new one. Trick is to get it cheap and code in your vin manually

Nice work... Very slick mod... But can you tell me how did you do all that??? What's "right equipment"? Once cluster is open? How do you find the proper chip? Then how do you go about wiping and re-coding? Did your dealer do all this for you? Or do you have a guy?
Thanks,
Mars
