Tell him not to try, because, instead of cluster burning, it's possible to burn his CCC
Tell him also that a little reading on our forums, will improve his knowledge!

Hi guys. Congratulations Andy and Nick for your mod. I bought the M5 cluster too, new uncoded and the dealer couldnt code it yet, saying its impossible to do it. Finally i convinced them to code it first thing on monday morning. If we finally find a solution i will let you all know. Any ideas on how to proceed are more than welcome.

I really dont know why its not working, i assume is because the cluster is uncoded.
Do i need the VIN number of an M5 to codify it?

Nick's cluster wasn't codifyed too .

M5 cluster has been coded and works perfectly.
Mine was a used one and it was necessary to open it up, find the appropriate chip, wipe all date from it, program my VIN onto it and close it up again. With the right equipment it's straightfoward.
After that it's simple process of coding the cluster via the "KOMBI" in the module menu in PROGMAN. You need to have your stock cluster on the car while going through this process, but then pause and change to the M5 cluster before pressing the "start coding" button !
It's a very good idea to get the latest software update first before you attempt this. Progman will then "see" that your car has the latest updates and will let you go straight to the cluster coding. Coding takes like 2 min.
This is very straightfoward with a new and uncoded cluster. Progman will code your vin and program all board computer data to it. There is however one small drawback: close to 500euros for a new one. Trick is to get it cheap and code in your vin manually
