My car don't have already any speed limiter on the ECU (well it still has but on much higher speeds that is impossible to reach) and it easily make more than 260. The only limiter that it has now is the cluster that only read till 260 and the hud it stops reading at 260 too, when on the M5 it goes on. Will the Hub only shows what the cluster read?
Tiago, I'm surprised actually the HUD stops reading after 260
have you confirmed you have surpassed 260 (by eg. means of GPS) or RPM calculation ?

on stock, the needle normally will continue moving past 260 and therefore the HUD will continue counting higher. The car is stock limited via the DME - if the limit is increased (via chiptuning) I don't see how the cluster/HUD is affected... - obviously from what you say, it does.

I will have more answers in October on the above subject...

maybe some other members with tuning (increased speed limit) can shed some light on this as well

Both, cluster as hub, stop reading at 260 and then the car can make more 500rpms with the reading stoped at 260. On the cluster digital speed hidden menu it keeps reading above 260, but you need to make all that boring process to acess that menu.

hmm..that is not so good news. It seems our stock clusters are programmed internally then to stop registering at 260 whatever the DME speed limit.
I hope the M5 cluster will cheat and keep registering...

I will check TIS and WDS if I can find some info on this...

Sounds like a headache to me just to have an M badge in the speedometer

It's not just only the M badge, I would say this is the last thing I like on it.

The first thing I like on it is the cool white/red lighting, second thing is the 330 km indicator with the different scale 0-120 than 120-330
third, the ellipsoid rings on tacho and speedo and last thing the ///M badge.

I can't stand the old cluster now, even for a 2-3 hour visit to the dealer.

here no dealers would do it, first they will claim loss of warranty and second, will not do it as it is impossible.
Then again we need to print out E60 pages and show them

Guys you are awesome and congrats! For a 3 l diesel I will not do it but would need sg at least till 270 as we did it over...
This guy from ebay wrote to me he could code a new M5 cluster to work on any E60...so it can be done. He is 50km north of Munich for anyone in Europe interested.

He could code...?
Why, a dealer cannot, if you buy it new ?

negative, officially they will not do it , as their eqiupment will indicate that the part no of the M5 cluster is hooked up to a non M5 E60. There is basically no TIS procedure for them to follow - it can be done (if you have a GOOD relationship with your dealer...), you just have to know how to do it - that guy above knows (and if you pay him 180euros... )

I have a good relationship with the dealer, very good. Do you know how to do it ? Or should I call the dealer to ask ?
I think I can't go to Munich... In truth I could, but it is further than the dealer .
