The parts are available. It's pizz easy because of my wiring adapter - plug and play.

I am adding a shopping cart facility to my site with payments by PayPal. This mod will cost 75 Euros + postage. Note the actual M5 gear knob either you can get or I can get. If I get it, then the cost is whatever BMW cost is - and I will trim the leather gaiter on it, so that it can be installed with your existing SQUARE leather gaiter. Have a look at my site under MODS/M5 Shifter to see all the details.
Right now, I have 3x M5 gear knobs at my home in the UK.

Total time for install should be around 15 minutes. And you don't even have to disconnect the battery or recode the car...

I am up for this mod along with the paddles. Just let me know how you want too work it Hobi.

Does the lower portion still have to be lit, or will the lighted portion of the knob show what you have selected? Reason I ask is I have a second trim panel and would like to put the remote knob for my V1 in there.

You will need to bottem portion lit for now. There are some wiring differences with the cars that make lighting the gear knob selections not possible. But that is your call since it is your car. I wanted the lights to work below the shifter.

The backlight illumination is lit, but I think they are talking about the selected gear not being lit on the M5 knob. The M5 does not have the shift pattern and selected gear LED's on the base plate like other E60 SMG's (see picture).....I assume that there are lights inside the M5's SMG knob itself that illuminate to indicate which position is selected (R, N, etc.).
