As title says...
I never updated the car since 2008 when I put it but now I'd need to.
Thank you!

If you are referring to soldering and swapping chips, I don't want to mod anything. The general rule said you have to replug the original instrument cluster THEN program the car. I'd like to have the confirm it works properly.

I've heard that rule, but I've also heard that that only works if you have a brand new zero miles cluster them perform the program coding. Otherwise the programming process will cease when it reaches the kombi (cluster) and realizes that that cluster has the incorrect vin # stored in it. Are you planning to buy a new cluster? The reason ppl buy a new chip & solder it in is for this same reason so the new chip can be programmed with their cars vin #.
There may be other ways around it. But I got lazy halfway during my research and just plugged in my used cluster and rolled like that FTW! Lol

Umich, let me explain.
I got the M5 cluster *NEW* and coded it at my dealer. And we know you can do it with a new one only (and I strongly suggest to everyone to do in this way - it's not so expensive in the end)
But I'm asking something different: I need to update my car and I need someone confirms I just need to replug the old one and launch the update.
Once updated, does the M5 cluster still work?
PS:
Can't find that thread.. Can you help me..?
