Personally I don't think you need them nor would I recommend them. They will add a ton of weight to your car at the corners. That is why I never did on my Dinan 550i. When I look at them now on my M5 it reminds me why I didn't. It is overkill and not a real advantage. In fact, it could be a disadvantage with the weight.

Good point. Unless you're tracking your car and need to do repeated high speed stops there is no advantage in stopping power. Read the 60-0 and 80-0 braking distances for an M5 and other 5 series. You'll see there is basically no difference. You can get the online results from Car and Driver/Road and Track magazines.

Yes, good point, but the front brake disc for 550i weighs 12.630kg / 27.844 lb and for M5 9.860kg / 21.738 lb.
And a caliper on 550i weighs 3.881kg / 8.556 lb, and on M5 4.296kg / 9.471 lb.

So, how and where then it could occurs overweight, when brakes on M5 are lighter than on 550i?

You guys have a V8. I had them on my gutless 2.5L 6cyl and it made a huge difference. I offset most of the weight by reducing other aspects of the car like sway bars and spare tire junk and lighter wheels. Why not have the best factory brakes when your being silly with your 4,000lb vehicle. I had 4 instances with surrounding drivers being stupid to a point where the cars stopping power came into play and they saved me and them.

My friend has the M5 with 8 piston BBK and he sold me and help install the brakes and laughed hysterically when he took my car for a drive and saw what the brakes do on a car that weighs. 600lbs less.

the brakes are no good for the track cause eventually there is brake fade cause the pads arent made for the track. you would need "ring taxi" pads for that, then they wont be any good on the street. In my test from 110 to 55 it was 4 one thousands i counted. These monsters rotors were warm to the touch just on a 3 mile stop and go city trip. yes it will eat mpg but for day in day out daily driving theyre really hard to beat for the price

and lastly...I went on many mtn runs and I hardly used the brakes, a light tap and cars momentum gets broken and when combined with PS2 and lighter wheels. its awesome!

M5 Taxi for the Nurburgring had specific set of race pads deemed "ring taxi" pagid 19 yellow or something like that.

I believe it takes you a second to say " a thousand one"..if said roughly 4 times its 4 seconds. not scientific but it works

To the best of my knowledge, the brake fade effect can be elimiated by going with Stainless Steel brake lines and a good high temp brake fluid. For whatever reason, the stock M5 does not come with SS lines. It is a very cheap extra though, when compared to the cost of buying the M5 Calipers and rotors. I believe another member mentioned the SS lines. If you are upgrading the brakes, might as well get the full meal deal.
