Dealer does not have to prove anything. If the service mgr says that a certain wheel or exhaust system has invalidated your warranty, you are cooked. GM will support his service mgr. BMWNA will support the dealer.

Once the dealer enters a blocked warranty into the system, no other dealer can override it.

believe what you want.

but agreed, once your warranty is pulled, you are screwed...

sorry sir but you are mistaken and am falling for a very common fallacy.

the dealer/BMW NA absolutely has to prove that X part caused Y problem to void warranty.

also there have been two occasions where the dealer has claimed something and i called BMW NA who spoke to the dealer and got me what i needed.

LOL well no thats not how it works actually. The Dealer can add to the original warranty if they so choose to so they can retain your business but never subtract from it. Ive had this convo with BMWNA many times and they have backed me up with my dealer each time.

I called my local stealership regarding ordering and installing M166 rims (for a price quote). My SA stated that the M166 rims are M5 rims and they are not recommended for my 535i. Thus they will not install them even if I order them elsewhere.

My question is if I get the 166's and 285 tires, will this void my powertrain warranty since they are not "recommended" by BMW?

Thanks.
Your dealer sucks...

As others have said if something goes wrong they have to prove that the change you made caused the failure to deny warranty coverage. That would be pretty hard to do but if you lose a wheel bearing or something with the suspension a really lousy dealer will give you grief and try and deny coverage.

A smart dealer knows that a certain percentage of BMW owners like to modify there cars and they want their business. Warranty repairs get charged to BMW NA not the dealer. Has your dealer heard of the new BMW performance parts that include bigger wheels?

Yeah. I live in Orlando. The next closest BMW dealerships are Lakeland and Daytona and they are all owned by the same person hence the same service.

I cannot say that I have ever had bad service, it is just these issues that they are such pricks with.

Garry 25% does not apply to wheel+tire packages, but does apply to wheels only

166's will run you ~1600 shipped via Garry, about another 800 for general uhp's from tirerack.com and you are good to go...
What size General UHPs, I see they don't come in the 285?

275/30/19 (which is the recc'd tire size) on numerous threads here regarding 166 and 167 tire sizes...also happens to be the OEM tire size for 19" M172's which come on the 550i w/ sport pkg...

according to this thread..

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=54583&hl=

"...285/30-19" - 25,8": Also a close match and the perfect size to use with the fronts 245/35-19", but there is a very few tires to choose with this size (only 4 options in tirerack). Wider tire means rubbing issue if you put spacers on the 166's (a must have for the rears) and lower the car...."

general's do not come in 285 AFAIK...and to the forum

This is exactly what I did. Yes, I did get the 25% discount from Garry of BMW of Newport, RI. Garry is awesome to deal with.

Trust me, 275/30/19 rear tires are plenty wide enough when you get 166 wheels with M6 offset.
