I called my local stealership regarding ordering and installing M166 rims (for a price quote). My SA stated that the M166 rims are M5 rims and they are not recommended for my 535i. Thus they will not install them even if I order them elsewhere.

My question is if I get the 166's and 285 tires, will this void my powertrain warranty since they are not "recommended" by BMW?

Thanks.

BMW would have to prove that your tires/wheels caused whatever power train damage you would be trying to claim or undergo....

and 275/30 is the OEM tire size for the 19" 550i 172M wheels...so what's the diff? I would ask them that....

I know of a few dealers that have gotten their 166's mounted at dealers without issues...

***BMW has to prove that the mod caused the issue to viod or deny warranty.....

Why would you order your wheels from Fields BMW? get them from Gary at Newport BMW and take advantage of the 25% off.
I gave you 2 places to install your wheels, dont this harder than it really is. both of them gonna treat your wheels with TLC.

Gary said the 25% discount does not apply to rims & tires...
but you should call him anyway to confirm.

I will definitely order from Garry when I buy the rims. The issue was that fields would not install items not bought from them, etc.

You recommended Discount Tire, and I am not so keen on them as I have had a bad experience in the past on another car.

What was the other place other than Discount Tire?

That DAS place went out of business. There is also Ultimate Audio and Orlando Auto Specialists, which I will probably try. As far as wheels, Garry is the man. He is going to give me the 166s with M6 offfset for 1545 plus shipping. Tires from Tirerack, of course

No, Garry does not discount tire and wheel packages, just wheels.

Cool, Ultimate Audio is also a good shop, they only deal with high end cars. I recommended that particular Discount tire store because i know the guys personally, 2 of them are BMW enthusiasts. Never had a issue with them and they also have the roadforce balancing.

You can get the rims balanced and mounted just about anywhere that knows what they're doing. I used Discount Tire and have had great customer service.

As far as the rims messing with the warranty... If you have a half way decent service advisor it will not change anything. Tons of people put rims on their BMW. Unless they can prove that your rims directly caused a problem to your car, you should be fine.

I think you should look for a new service dealership. Just my two cents.

Garry 25% does not apply to wheel+tire packages, but does apply to wheels only

166's will run you ~1600 shipped via Garry, about another 800 for general uhp's from tirerack.com and you are good to go...

Dealer does not have to prove anything. If the service mgr says that a certain wheel or exhaust system has invalidated your warranty, you are cooked. GM will support his service mgr. BMWNA will support the dealer.

Once the dealer enters a blocked warranty into the system, no other dealer can override it.

The local dealership was running a package special to install M166's (or M167's) and M-Tech's for all E60's (not including xi's). So I find that pretty screwy that another dealership won't even install the wheels, when another is trying to upsell them! I mean sure, it's the Middle East but they are still ultimately beholden to BMW Corporate.

They were also charging 6k US for the "SWEET DEAL" lol...
