Choosing between H&R Race or Sport springs depend on the tire size. I'm running 245/30/20 and 275/25/20 and finding that my current H&R Sport springs are no longer adequate.
When I had 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 tires the Sport spring was perfect. If you are running 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 then the Sport will be fine too.
The Koni shocks are helping me out with my rubbing issues. Only problem I'm having is when I hit dips on the highway. Other than that the tires are fine.

BTW, do you have Active Steering? I don't know how the hell I'm going to get my car aligned as BMW dealer has told me they can't mount the machine on my wheels =(

Weezy,
Have no fear. The stock shocks are fine with H&R Sport and Eibach Pro kit. I just need to be able to dial in a stiffer setting with the Koni FSD shocks with my new H&R Race and wheel/tire setup.

Yes, but isn't it true that you will wear out your shocks prematurely? I'm a member on several car forums (non-BMW) and you always see posts regarding stock shock life suffering significantly due to the change in springs. I've heard people getting 30k miles (or even less) out of stock shocks when aftermarket springs are installed. If BMW's shocks are completely different than all other cars then tell me to go fly a kite. Otherwise, why aren't people replacing their shocks at the same time they add springs? Is it simply an issue of cost where people see it as a very good mod for under $500, or do people really not realize the damage their causing to the oem shocks?

You're right. Aftermarket springs should be mated with aftermarket shocks. The OEM springs will eventually fail prematurely. And, that is why Koni Sport shocks are on the way for me.

Not sure about everybody else, but I got stock sport suspension and it rubs a bit if there are dips in the road. Its seems like my setup is lower than everybody else's since I can only stick around one finger between the tires and fender. Maybe its just my luck.

VERY nice choice with the Koni's. What do think average shock and spring life would be assuming everything is 100% stock? I've thought about lowering the car, but it would be about $1500 to do it the right way according to my calculations.

Here are my numbers for aftermarket springs and shocks: $270/H&R Sport or $290/H&R Race, $693/Koni Sport shocks, $300 for install, and a few hundred more for an alignment. That comes out to just about your $1500 figure.
As for the average life of the stock springs/shocks of the e60, I'm not sure. I haven't heard anyone complain that their springs/shocks went out yet.
