I've been getting a lot of requests lately (via PM) on how I tinted my tails without having them sprayed. Since my car is a lease, I wanted to be able to pull this tint when it came time to turn my car in.

I originally had my turn signal portions tinted (as some of my pictures show in my Gallery). This tint was purchased a while ago from an eBay seller. I know they have an online store too, but I can't find their site. It worked great and I never had any issues with peeling, but I wanted the whole light tinted.

Lamin-x finally came out with a tint last October that covers the entire light. They also offer it in 3 different shades. I took my car to a professional tint shop, as I wanted them to do a good job of getting the tint nice and tight over the "bump" in the corner of our taillights. It worked like a charm. (Don't go asking me for pictures, as I haven't finished all my latest mods just yet ).

Anyway, for those that are interested, here you go:

http://lamin-x.com/ecommerce/os/catalog/pr...a2809cb749a6920

For $55, you can't beat it. Oh, and I went with Smoked. It's the middle shade.

Pics or ban, C!

I helped out a buddy of mine put Lamin-X on his M3. Film is much thicker than I thought making it kinda tough to get around the corners and keeping the bubbles out. I can't imagine how difficult the E60 tail light must have been for that shop.

Hahahaha! I know man. After finding out that my dealer wouldn't take my car back to trade it in for a new 550 or used M5, I decided to go back on a shopping spree for my car. Might as well make it what I want it, while I still have it.

Hope to see you soon Ed. Been a while. Keep me posted on any upcoming meets over on M5Board.

It's a glue, just like the tint for your windows. You apply a soapy water to it, squeegee it down, heat gun it until it shrinks to fit and is tight and let it dry.

I just got the film in the mail and am considering doing it myself.

Has anyone tried to DIY this film? I know it will be difficult because of the bump on the tail.

What is a reasonable price if I take it to a tint shop? If it's like $20, I'll just let them do it, but if it is more, I may try it myself.

thx.

Let a shop do it. Take my advice.
