I have a 530i with non-sport package. The wheel place that I went to today told me that I should get 20mm spacers ($100) on my rear 19/275/30s.
I know a few of you have spacers on your #166 wheel setups.
Is 20 mm good or too much?
My rear 19" wheels look really tiny right now. The guy put a 20 mm spacer next to my tires to show me the change in how far the tires would move, and it looked like the tires were still within the inner well (right at it). I have the smallest looking 19" wheels/tires that I have ever seen.

In addition, he wants to charge $200 for labor to put some Eibach lowering springs on. Is this a standard price for installation?

Any advice here?

I have the M172 wheels which have a similar offset to the 166's (and possibly even less).

Please take a look at the link below, because I use only 10mm spacers at the rear, as I found that 15mm was too much.

Thanks, I wonder if it makes a difference with Replica #166s. I seem to have the standard 19" staggerred set up, but the wheels look really small.
Is there a certain point in the well where you want the wheel to hit? For example, when we added the 20mm to the existing wheel (by placing a 20mm spacer against the wheel), it still did not rub against the outside of the well. I do not plan to lower the car anywhere close so that there could be rubbing, so that should not be a worry.

When I looked at the picture with 10mm spacers, it almost seemed that my 20mm proposed move would be about the same. I am still wondering if I have a smaller rim size...

Thanks to all. This information, and the picture is very helpful. I will show it to the wheel guy.

Adding spacers is not going to make your rims look bigger. Spacers are really to just push the wheel out a bit further to fill in the wheel well. As for the rim size, take out a tape measure and measure them. They should actually be be 20.5" in diameter.

Monaco,

firstly $ 200,- labour to do the springs is a very decent price. It's quite some work on an E60. ( a few hours)

On the wheels it would help to know, what size the wheels are and what the offset is. Are the rears 9" or 9.5" and the offset makes a difference, too.
