My guess is that it cud be a picture taken at some big event (Frankfurt,Paris, Geneva shows) where the cars are presented with concept options which are not implemented yet like for example there was a picture of window swtiches with a specific design.

Just an aside - you know how the controller resists turning when you reach the end of a menu? I was wondering if you forced the knob and turned past the resistance whether the controller would break. ).If I had to guess (actually that's what I'm doing) I'd say it was some kind of magnetic resistance (Rudy, can you confirm this?).
The reason why I think this is that when the car is off, the controller will spin rather freely. Also, when the car is on, the stop point varies depending on which menu you are in.

But the pic shows it on an E60. It was the Individual E60 shown at the last Frankfurt Auto Show. 
So it must be something special for Individual ONLY (as I have been told earlier)...
